Doulas in Action featuring Misty from Divine Doula
Each time I write a post about a doula that I've worked with, I hope that it helps just 1 person out there choose a doula. Furthermore, I hope it helps several people out there know what a doula is, and what a doula does. Because when you go to the hospital to give birth, it will be you and your support team. For the most part, women are left alone to labor (aside from numerous checks), your nurse isn't there through every contraction and neither is your midwife or doctor. Its the support team you have with you. Misty, from Divine Doula, epitomized that support with our mutual client, Betsy. Betsy is a first time mama, and Misty was right there with her through each contraction from 5am in the morning when the family called her, until past 9pm when she left after baby was born. Misty reminded me of the coach that you always listened to, because you knew they were telling you the right things to do. She would often talk quietly to Betsy, I couldn't always hear what she was saying, but it always helped. When Betsy started to struggle, Misty suggested doing something else and the change seemed to help Betsy to stay in her zone and continue laboring comfortably. It was a great partnership and I wish that everyone could see the strength of both of these women, that day. Betsy because she was a true warrior and watching her give birth, naturally with no interventions, in the hospital, she epitomized how strong women are and how amazing labor and natural childbirth can be. Misty because she helped her through each contraction, stage of labor and push. An understanding and knowing woman, helping another woman give birth. It was beautiful to see. If my words haven't moved you enough to consider a doula, then maybe these photos will.
Birth is amazing, and doulas help to make that day better for you. They are your advocate and support. You can find more about Misty on her facebook page.
