Why In-Home Maternity & Newborn Photography Might Be Your New Favorite Way to Document This Season
In Home Lifestyle Photography
There is something pretty wonderful about having your photographs taken at home.
You don't have to pack a diaper bag, get everyone dressed and out the door, or worry about whether your baby will cooperate once you arrive somewhere. You simply stay home — where you already feel comfortable, and where so much of your family's everyday life happens.
For families in Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Whitmore Lake, and throughout Southeast Michigan, in-home maternity and newborn lifestyle photography offers a relaxed, meaningful alternative to a traditional studio session.
Some of my favorite photographs happen right there in the middle of your ordinary life.
Your Home Is Part of Your Story - It’s where your newborn is brought ‘home’ - it’s where you make memories
When you look back at photographs of your children years from now, you'll probably remember their faces first.
But you'll also remember the little things.
The bedroom where you rocked them to sleep.
The couch where everyone piled together on Saturday mornings.
The nursery you spent months preparing.
The window where the afternoon light always seemed to fall perfectly.
The bed where you brought your newborn for those first sleepy cuddles.
Those details become part of your family's story. And even if you move, kids want to see their first bedroom and how you loved them in it!
That's one of the things I love most about in home sessions. We're documenting what life looked and felt like when your family was becoming a little bigger.
Your home doesn't need to be perfect.
It doesn't need to look like a magazine.
It just needs to be yours.
Cozy, Comfortable & Completely You
One of the biggest benefits of an in-home photography session is that you already know the space.
You don't have to figure out how to pose or wonder what you're supposed to do with your hands. You don't have to entertain a newborn in an unfamiliar environment.
Instead, we can let things unfold naturally.
Maybe your toddler wants to climb into bed with you.
Maybe your newborn needs to eat halfway through the session.
Maybe it’s just you and your partner with a baby on the way and you love cuddling in bed.
All of that is okay.
In fact, those are the moments we're looking for.
Lifestyle photography isn't about creating a perfectly posed version of your family. It's about giving you space to interact, snuggle, play, feed, soothe, laugh and love on each other while I document what happens.
In-Home Maternity Photography
You don't have to wait until your baby arrives to have your home photographed.
An in-home maternity photography session can be a beautiful way to document the quiet anticipation of pregnancy.
There's something especially sweet about photographing an expectant mother in her own space — barefoot in the bedroom, wrapped in a favorite sweater, sitting in the nursery, or simply standing in beautiful window light with her growing belly.
For couples and families, home also gives us room to incorporate the things that are meaningful to you.
Your children can be involved. Your partner can be part of the story. We can photograph the nursery, little details you've collected for your baby, and all of those quiet moments before everything changes.
And because you're home, there's no pressure to make the session feel like a production.
It can simply feel like you.
In-Home Newborn Photography
The newborn days are fleeting.
You think you'll remember how tiny their fingers were. How they curled their legs up when you picked them up. How they slept on your chest. How they fit into the crook of your arm.
But somehow, those details become harder to remember as the years go by.
That's why I love lifestyle newborn photography.
Instead of trying to create a perfectly posed newborn photograph, we can document your baby exactly as they are in those first days and weeks.
Sleepy. Hungry. Wide awake. Snuggly. Fussy. Tiny.
We can photograph you feeding your baby, your partner holding them, siblings meeting them, everyone snuggled together in your bed, little toes kicking on the changing table, and all of those tiny details that make this season yours.
And if your baby cries?
We'll stop.
If they need to nurse?
We'll take a break.
If your toddler needs a snack?
Absolutely.
There is no rush.
What Happens During an In-Home Session?
Sessions are relaxed and typically last about 1–1.5 hours.
When I arrive, we'll spend a little time getting comfortable and looking around your home. I'll look for the best natural light and identify a few spaces that will photograph beautifully.
You don't need to clean your entire house.
Seriously.
We'll focus on the spaces we'll actually use — usually bedrooms, the nursery, living areas, and anywhere with beautiful natural light.
From there, I'll guide you when you need direction, but I'll also give you plenty of room to simply be together.
You don't have to know how to pose.
You don't have to perform for the camera.
You just have to love your people.
I'll take care of the rest.
Your session includes:
1–1.5 hours of photography
In-home maternity or newborn lifestyle photography
70+ high-resolution edited images
A relaxed, natural approach with gentle guidance when needed
Photos of your family interacting naturally in your own home
The investment is $675.

Whether you live in a downtown Ann Arbor apartment, a cozy Chelsea farmhouse, a home near Whitmore Lake, or somewhere in between, your home can be the perfect setting for your maternity or newborn photographs.
You just need the people you love.
Because someday, when your children are much bigger and this season is far behind you, you'll look at these photographs and remember not just what your baby looked like — but what it felt like to have them home.
And I think that's pretty special.
